Description
Up for auction is a nice vintage Washington, D.C. plate. The back is stamped in gold “A CAPSCO PRODUCT CAPITOL SOUVENIR COMPANY INC. WASHINGTON, D.C. V WARRANTED 22KARAT GOLD” It is 7 inches in diameter and weighs 8 ¼ounces. This plate is in good, vintage condition – slight wear on the gold and tiny scratches. On the back there are manufacturing flaws – specks, pits and bumps in the glaze, holder marks from firing, a few little digs, stray gold marks and a deep 1/8 inch long scratch or defect. According to my research, during World War 1 Jacob Goozh started the Empire Photo Studio, taking “tin-type” photos of people passing through Washington D.C. as souvenirs. The name was changed to The Capitol SouvenirCompany in 1931. He branched into postcards and contracted with small potteries to produce souvenir plates. The scene pictured on this plate has a number of names such as Colonial Couple, George and Martha, Colonial Lady and Gentleman, and can be seen on quite a few vintage plates from various manufacturers. Thanks for looking!PS regarding shipping: Depending on where you live it may be cheaper to ship this in a Flat Rate Padded Envelope. It will
first be packed in a box for added security. Thanks!
