Description
Check out this vintage wire recorder made in western Germany. Unlike the Minifon P-55, this looks to be a Minifon Special. According to an article on Cryptomuseum.com, the Minifon Special "was a miniature covert wire recorder introduced in 1961 at the height of the Cold War. It was intended for use by the Secret Service. It is a combination of its predecessors, the Minifom Attache and the Minifon P-55."This recorder also comes with its carrying case and "razor" microphone.
Here are some specifics: It is untested but looks to be intact. The battery compartment looks good with no corrosion from old batteries.
The inside contains 12 points on Correct Use of this recorder.
The recorder has some areas where the white paint has come off (see pics).
The piece looks clean; there is a spot under the plastic where the spools are.The hard case has scuffs and scratches.
The emblem, which should be on the front, is missing. It came loose and we have it somewhere but don't know if we will ever find it.
The microphone looks to be in good general condition.
The leather/vinyl? case has an outside pocket for the microphone. The case also has the Minifon name as well as Made in Germany. A brad is missing on the strap of the case. Otherwise, the strap would be attached to both sides.
This is certainly a unique, hard to find item that would be great to own. Email me with questions and be sure to enlarge photos for close up details. S/h .00 in lower 48 states.
